Mad Scientist Jack O Lantern Play

We carved a Jack O Lantern out of a large pumpkin and let our little monsters become Mad Scientist.
We gave them vinegar and baking soda to create their magic potions with and let them go crazy! This pumpkin was to big to be a pumpkin-cano, but the kids loved watching the fizz come out of it's mouth and enjoyed being able to make the magic happen themselves. This is a great sensory activity for your little monster to get involved in, even one of our fussy little monsters (who doesn't like to get messy) joined in and mixed a little potion in the Jack O Lantern!

To make a pumpkin-cano you need a smallish pumpkin, we just cut ours in half! If you want to use a big one, make use to stock up on baking soda and vinegar. Hollow your pumpkin out with your little monster, let them get messy!! You can save the insides for some additional sensory play, your little monster will love it! Here's a great messy activity and a not so messy activity! Find a container to put in the pumpkin, so the messy doesn't get all over the place. Mix about a 1/2 of cup of water, with orange food colouring and 4-5 drops of dish soap and put that in your pumpkin. When you are ready to make the eruption, add a few tablespoons of baking soda and then 1/4 cup of vinegar and sit back and watch the pumpkin explode!

Make it a colour mixing activity and add different food colouring to the vinegar!
